Crash Bang Wallop

Our Saturday morning ride turned into quite an event a couple of days ago.

We were about a third of our way around the circuit we take when I heard the sickening sound of clashing metal behind me. It seemed to go on forever. It sounded as if the entire pack behind me had fallen.

We pulled over to the side of the road and then looked back. 3 cyclists had come down on a small bridge. There is a bad join between the road and bridge which one of the riders had hit quite badly.

One cyclist had just a few scrapes, one had a cut to the head, and the third had a broken collarbone. Yuck.

The group swung into action with some looking after the injured guys, some directing traffic, someone calling an ambulance, another calling his partner to come and collect the bikes of those who fell.

One the two more seriously injured guys had been packed into the back of the ambulance and Judy had turned up to take the bikes away, we rode back towards the coffee shop where we meet after each Saturday ride.

It was a rather subdued conversation, mostly focussing on the accident and previous cycling accidents.

We’ll all be back next week, hoping that we all stay a lot safer on the ride.
