3240 Lives About to Change

It’s been a busy few weeks at work.

Today has been the culmination of many weeks of Sonshine FM’s Operation Christmas Child. The initiative sees shoeboxes being packed with simple toys and other items to be distributed to suffering children overseas via aid agency Samaritan’s Purse.

I wrote a previous post about it all here.

It was wonderful to reach a tally of 3240 shoeboxes which was well over 700 more than our target of 2500. Even now more boxes are arriving.

Here’s a picture of some of the staff at Sonshine FM surrounded by some of the boxes. My head is poking out over the top of the boxes down the back.

Due to the generosity of many hundreds of listeners we’ve built a mountain of colourful shoeboxes. Wandering around amongst that mountain it’s hard to imagine that each of those boxes will give new hope to a child who’s suffering and may have lost hope.

I look forward to hearing all the stories that come back about the many little lives that will be reached because so many people cared enough to give of their time, their finances and most of all their love for children that they’ll probably never even meet.

Billboard Ringtone Chart

Does your mobile phone have a polyphonic ringtone?

It seems that those tacky ringtones we hear everwhere these days have been recognised as part of the music industry by Billboard Magazine.

The weekly entertainment industry publication, which tracks top record and CD sales, says it’s launching a new chart that will track the popularity of phone ringtones. The new chart, known as the Billboard Hot Ringtones Chart, will reflect the Top 20 polyphonic ringtone sales for each week, including song title, artist, previous week’s position and number of weeks on the chart.

The ringtone market has exploded in recent years, with global revenues estimated to have topped $4.71 billion in 2003, according to industry estimates.

I just wonder if the artists whose music is being replicated for the ringtones will be happy or unhappy if their track hits number one on the new chart.

A delightful morning

My studio guest this morning, as mentioned in the previous post, was Cosima De Vito.

She was an absolute delight. She is a lady who is high on life and is extremely friendly.

Cosima talks about being unaffected by fame and you can absolutely believe it. She was generous with her time and very open.

I took the opportunity to play the new single from her album. It’s called Now That You Can’t Have Me and it’s a wonderful display of her vocal talent and Diane Warren’s remarkable songwriting.

Cosima

During my morning programme on Sonshine FM today I’ll be chatting to Cosima De Vito, who was one of the final three contestants this time last year on Australian Idol.

As her website says, Cosima de Vito became the first Australian independent artist in Australian music history to debut at #1 on the aria charts with a debut single!

I’ll be talking to Cosima about her brand new album just after 11:00am.

The Value of Time

What are you like at keeping appointments?

I had an appointment to meet a couple of people yesterday afternoon. I got home from work, got changed, and headed across town arriving about 10 minutes before the appointed time. Around 20 minutes after the appointed time I headed home again. They never showed.

I know that they had my mobile phone number and when we arranged to meet I stressed to them the importance of letting me know if they couldn’t make it.

I do wonder what people are thinking when they just leave someone hanging like that. Why do they feel that it’s alright to take a big chunk out of someone else’s day without apology?

Oh well, I’m over it now. Maybe it’s just a good reminder for me to always treat other people’s time as an important commodity.
