Dream Job

After being tagged and having to consider a bunch of different jobs, I was wondering about a dream job.

What kind of work are you doing at the moment and what would be your dream job?

At the moment, I’m on-air from 9 to midday each weekday morning at Sonshine FM. I’m pretty much working my dream job. Sure there are things I’d like to do differently in my job and some days are better than others but it’s a great job and it’s where I feel I should be.

What about you? Are you just working for the man or are you doing what you want to do?

Let's get technical

For the last several Friday mornings I’ve been joined on-air on my morning radio programme by David Cook for our Tech Zone segment. We look at all things technological and have a lot of fun along the way.

Today we’re looking at keeping your PC healthy.

The segment goes to air just after 10:00 a.m. Perth time. (UTC/GMT +8 hours)

If you’re in Perth you can tune in to 98.5 Sonshine FM at 98.5 on your FM radio. Otherwise, go to the website and click on the big logo so you can listen online. For anyone local, you can have your say by phoning us when we start taking calls live to air. For others, you can send us a message with MSN Messenger. Our Tech Zone username is ‘techzone@sonshinefm.ws’. Add us as a contact so that we can see you online.

If you miss the show this morning you can still listen to it on line by going to the Tech Zone web page and selecting Previous Topics. There you can choose a number of ways to listen including a podcast.

Let me know if you get a chance to listen live or later.

I've been tagged

As you may have noticed in the comments section of my previous post, I’ve just been tagged by Rachel from Life Being Beautiful. (Thanks Rachel).

It’s part of a new meme that is travelling through the blogosphere. The idea is if you’re tagged, you need to choose 5 (or more if you like) occupations from the list below and then finish the sentence for each that you’ve chosen.

You then tag three more people who must do the same. You can add more occupations to the list when you pass it on but you must choose your 5 from the list provided by the person who tagged you. The occupations in red at the bottom of the list are the ones I’ve added. You’re also asked to trackback to the blogger who tagged you if you know how. The meme was started by Ogre so it’d be great to provide a trackback to this post on his blog too.

If I could be a scientist…
If I could be a farmer…
If I could be a musician…
If I could be a doctor…
If I could be a painter…
If I could be a gardener…
If I could be a missionary…
If I could be a chef…
If I could be an architect…
If I could be a linguist…
If I could be a psychologist…
If I could be a librarian…
If I could be an athlete…
If I could be a lawyer…
If I could be an innkeeper…
If I could be a professor…
If I could be a writer…
If I could be a llama-rider…
If I could be a bonnie pirate…
If I could be a service member…
If I could be a photographer…
If I could be a philanthropist…
If I could be a rap artist…
If I could be a child actor…
If I could be a secret agent…
If I could be a comedian/comedienne…
If I could be a priest…
If I could be a radio announcer…
If I could be a phlebotomist…

My five are below.

If I could be a gardener my back yard wouldn’t look like it does.

If I could be a psychologist I would have a lot of fun messing with people’s minds.

If I could be an athlete I would be one of the world’s greatest cyclists and be the first Australian to win the Tour de France.

If I could be a writer I might be able to lure a few more people into reading my blog.

If I could be a photographer I could justify buying the camera that I want but can’t afford.

If I could be a secret agent I would make my 6 year old son very proud of me.

I tag Peter, Cindy and Jim.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Adrian from Rooview wanted a few more details on the movie Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy which we went to see last night.

I guess that I’m going to have to confess here that I’ve never read the book or seen the TV series. I do, however, own the double album, (remember vinyl?) so I’m reasonably familiar with the story.

I enjoyed the fact that much of the dialogue on the album, which I assume was directly lifted from the book, was used in the film. That gave a comfortable sense of familiarity. At the same time it didn’t feel as if it was just a rehashing.

It had some great visual effects but they weren’t overdone. Rather than relying on big effects, the film relies on the very English humour of the story. There were some very nice pieces of animation used throughout too.

The casting worked well and I especially enjoyed Bill Nighy’s shortish appearance. (Mind you, I like him in anything he does so I’m biased.)

I’m sure it helped that I had a background understanding of the story but I reckon that newcomers to the story will still enjoy the movie.

The movie is a nice peice of understated humour and escapism. You won’t find too many belly laughs but there’s a gentle humour that will have you leaving the cinema smiling.
