The Nativity Story

Another segment on my morning radio programme at 98.5 Sonshine FM is a fortnightly look at what’s on at the movies.

Aaron Kamp has been reviewing movies for some time and he posts his reviews at Cinemaniacs, part of the YFC website.

Every couple of weeks we look at what’s in the cinemas, what’s new on DVD and we take a closer look at a particular new release movie.

Today Aaron reviewed The Nativity Story.

98.5 Sonshine FM ran a preview screening of the movie for about 400 of our listeners last week and it seemed to be well received. It was wonderful to be taken back in time around 2000 years to see how things may have been for Mary and Joseph. Rather than the rather serene images we’ve been served up for years, this movie shows the poverty into which the baby Jesus was born.

If you’re wanting to remember the true story behind the Christmas season I’d recommend you take a few hours to see The Nativity Story. It starts rather slowly but it keeps drawing you in to immerse you in the most wonderful story ever told. The audience’s connection with the film was probably most telling when the birth of Jesus was portrayed and many people across the cinema broke into spontaneous applause.

Random ramblings

Each week on a Wednesday I’m joined by Louise Kelman during my morning radio programme on 98.5 Sonshine FM.

Lou is a comedy performer who, together with her sister Suzanne, wrote a book titled Big Purple Undies. After its huge success they wrote a show based around the book and toured it very succesfully through the US.

As well as looking at a number of weird but true news stories, we tend to chat about anything and nothing at the same time.

You can click here and listen to us having a very random chat.

Shepherds and wise men

Could it be that the only reason the shepherds and wise men are included in the nativity story is to give kids the opportunity to wear some really cool costumes at the annual nativity play?

Why does the Bible mention the shepherds and wise guys? Are they only there to add colour to the story?

My regular Wednesday morning guest on 98.5 Sonshine FM is Ross Clifford is the Principal of Morling College in New South Wales and current President of the Baptist Union of Australia. Each week we chat about a range of issues relating to spirituality and belief.

Yesterday we talked about why the gospel writers felt the visit of the wise men and shepherds was important enough to include in the story of the birth of Jesus.
