Straight talk about sex

In 1998 husband and wife, Jim and Faye Lyons, established Straight Talk Australia.

Their desire is to see our young people escape the terrible consequences of uninformed decisions. They spend their time talking to young people about making right choices.

While most of society is telling us that if it feels good we should go ahead and do it, Jim and Faye are presenting a counter cultural message by telling young people that they can say no to the sexual expectations of our society.

Jim and Faye were my guests on 98.5 Sonshine FM this morning. They talked about their programme and the response they get from students at the schools they visit.

They ask young people questions about how many sexual partners they want their future husband or wife to have had before they marry and they look at when faithfulness begins. Their programme also looks at the medical and emotional effects of multiple sex partners and at how little protection condoms really offer.

People will always make their own decisions regarding sex but with Hollywood, television and society in general pumping out their ideas on the subject, we owe it to our kids to let them know that there are other options. They’re a lot more free to choose one path or another if they have a better understanding of the full impact of becoming sexually active.
