Congratulations Rebecca and Geoff

Ever feel like cheering when you read a blog post?

A couple of blogs that I really enjoy reading are all said and done and TheGeoffRe(y)port. Both are thoughtful and well written.

Rebecca and Geoff swapped blogs yesterday and made guest posts to announce their engagement. I was so thrilled for both of them. You can read Rebecca’s post on Geoff’s blog here and Geoff’s post on Rebecca’s blog here. Why not drop in and congratulate them?

Congratulations to the both of you. May you enjoy many, many happy years together.

Falling down the ladder

Want to know who not to tip in the football this weekend?

My tipping has been travelling along reasonably well this year …. until last weekend.

I was in the top half of tippers in The Journey Football Tipping Competition until I had a horror round and picked only two of the eight games. I mentioned right from the start that I’m hopeless at footy tipping so my early good form was more of an exception rather than the rule.

Out of the 14 tippers in the competition, I’m now sitting 10th. Mark Edwards is on top of the tipping ladder.

So, if you want to do well with this week’s tipping, just pick the opposite of who I’ve picked.

I’m tipping Essendon, Port Adelaide, West Coast Eagles, Brisbane Lions, Sydney Swans, Hawthorn, Geelong and Adelaide.

If you’re part of any tipping competition, remember that there’s a game tomorrow so you’ll need to have all your tips in today.

Thinking of linking?

Paul from But a Poor Reflection is just one of several very kind people who are helping to spread the message about the fact that I’m spending this Friday morning locked in a prison cell.

The difference with Paul’s post is that he created a WANTED poster for added impact.

Paul has emailed me to say that he’s happy for others to use the picture that he generated. You can click on the picture for a larger version and then save it and resize it however you like.

If you’re thinking of helping out by highlighting the Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser, feel free to copy the picture and use it with your post.

Thanks Paul. It’s brilliant.

Cystic Fibrosis

I mentioned in my last post that I’m taking part in a rather unusual fund raising event this Friday morning. I will be broadcasting my regular radio programme on 98.5 Sonshine FM locked in a prison cell, relying on donations to bail me out.

The money raised will support Cystic Fibrosis sufferers and their families but what is Cystic Fibrosis? It’s a devastating condition yet we hear so little about it.

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life threatening, recessive genetic condition affecting Australian children and is the second most common life-shortening, childhood onset inherited disorder in the United States.

Symptoms can include poor weight gain, troublesome coughs, repeated chest infections, salty sweat and abnormal stools.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects a number of organs in the body (especially the lungs and pancreas) by clogging them with thick, sticky mucus.

Repeated infections and blockages can cause irreversible lung damage and death.

I’ve spoken to the family of a CF sufferer before and caring for their child is a round the clock effort. The routine they need to follow each day is absolutely punishing.

At present there is no cure for CF, but the faulty gene has been identified and doctors and scientists are working to find ways of repairing or replacing it.

With today’s improved treatment most people with CF are able to lead reasonably normal and productive lives. A great amount of time is being directed towards finding new and improved ways of treating CF and of finally finding a cure.

Can I encourage you to support families who are battling CF by donating? Simply click here then scroll down the page and select Convicts for a Cause Donation. Type ‘Rodney Olsen’ into the text box and select the amount you’d like to donate.

Donations can be accepted on Visa or MasterCard. Please keep in mind that the amounts are in Australian Dollars and of course the tax deductibility is only available in Australia. If you’re not in Australia and you’d like to work out the exchange rate you can work it out through this currency converter.

Convict for a Cause

Have I teased you enough with my last post?

This Friday morning, the 27th of April, I will be broadcasting my 98.5 Sonshine FM radio programme from Fremantle Prison, where I’ll be locked in a cell. I’ll be asking people to donate towards Cystic Fibrosis WA so that I can be released. I need your help to pull off my own prison break.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common life threatening, recessive genetic condition affecting Australian children and is the second most common life-shortening, childhood onset inherited disorder in the United States. For such a serious condition it really doesn’t get a lot of attention.

I’ll tell you more about Cystic Fibrosis in my next post.

What can you do to support families who are battling CF?

Firstly, you can help me to get the word out. If you publish a blog please link to this post. Can I ask you to email people that you know to highlight what I’ll be doing? Please help me get the word out to as many people as possible.

The other way you can help is by donating. Simply click here then scroll down the page and select Convicts for a Cause Donation. Type ‘Rodney Olsen’ into the text box and select the amount you’d like to donate. I’ve created an example which you can see in the picture in this post. Once you’ve done that just continue to follow the links as prompted.

Donations can be accepted on Visa or MasterCard. Please keep in mind that the amounts are in Australian Dollars and of course the tax deductibility is only available in Australia. If you’re not in Australia and you’d like to work out the exchange rate you can work it out through this currency converter.

Thank you for your help with this. Together we can make a very big difference for families who can really do with our support and encouragement.
