On your radio

Dean Geyer was my studio guest on 98.5 Sonshine FM this morning.

He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Australia with his family in 2001.

Last year he entered Channel Ten’s Australian Idol.

Leading up to the final of the competition, he was selected by both Mark Holden and former Australian Idol judge Ian Dickson as their favourite for winning the competition.

He eventually finished third but that was never going to stop him from having a career in the music industry. Last month he released his single If You Don’t Mean It, followed by the album, Rush.

It was an absolute pleasure to chat to Dean this morning.

He arrived after a very busy morning filled with interviews around Perth. His first appointment for the day was an appearance on Channel 9’s Today show which was broadcast from Perth this morning. With the two hour time difference between Western Australia and the east coast, the 6:00 a.m. start for the show became 4:00 a.m. Dean had to get up at 3:30 for his live appearance which got underway a little after 4:30 Perth time.

As well as being a great interview guest, Dean was kind enough to spend time with a few people at the radio station. Pauline and I let Emily and James take a couple of hours off school to drop in and say hello. Dean was more than happy to chat to them, even though his tight schedule still had plenty more appointments waiting.

Say goodbye

After 55 years behind the microphone, John Laws is finally calling it quits.

I’d apply for his job and the extremely attractive salary package but I love what I’m doing at 98.5 Sonshine FM too much.
