300 kilometre flight in a lawn chair

I posted a couple of days back about my love of flying. Of course when I talk about flying I’m imagining some kind of motorised aircraft … not a garden chair.

According to this story from News.com.au Ameican Kent Couch decided to go flying through Oregon skies by attaching 105 large, colourful helium balloons to his garden chair.

Believe it or not Kent spent nine hours in the air and covered a distance of 300 kilometres before he ‘touched down’ in a farmer’s field. He travelled at about 40 kilometres an hour with three cars filled with friends, family and his dog following him from below. Kent had a marvellous time floating through the clouds fulfilling a childhood dream. “When you’re a little kid and you’re holding a helium balloon, it has to cross your mind.”

I imagine that the next flying that Kent Couch will do will be all expenses paid as he does the rounds of various talk shows.

  • That is awesome! Don’t know whether to mention it to the kids though. Who knows what they’ll try!
