Sy Rogers talks sexuality and the church

Sy RogersI wrote quite some time ago that I had the pleasure of chatting with Sy Rogers for a radio interview on 98.5 Sonshine FM. That was back in October 2004 when Sy was in Perth for a conference.

I was reminded of that interview recently when I read the post Special Guest on Bob has invited Sy to speak at Calvary Fellowship, Miami Lakes on Sunday the 27th of January.

Sy is a very interesting guy and has some great stuff to share, especially on the subject of sexuality and how it relates to all of us.

His website says:

Regarded as a gifted international communicator, award-winning talk show host, recording artist and pastor, Sy has served for over two decades in ministry, and 17 years as a pastoral care specialist regarding sexuality. His seminars and speaking events are conducted transdenominationally on 6 continents, for leadership conferences, counselling training, youth festivals, and men’s events such as Promise Keepers.

His insights and dramatic life story have been featured in numerous international media interviews & articles (such as Donohue, 700 Club, Good Morning Australia), as well as being featured in several books written by authors such as Dr. James Kennedy and Philip Baker.

Back in 2004 when I chatted to Sy we didn’t have the opportunity to make the audio of our interview more widely available but with Sonshine FM’s Audio on Demand now available I thought I’d trawl through the archives and let you listen to Sy Rogers.

Just click the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

  • I still remember the first time i saw/heard of Sy. We watched his testimony (recorded at Edge Church in Adelaide) at our home group. My immediate thought was ‘there’s NO WAY this guy is straight’ – but then i started listening to his message, and it completely challenged and convicted me. If you ever get a chance to hear or see Sy, do it! You won’t regret it.

  • I have heard sy Rogers talk at Riverview Church abut 2 or three times now. The first time I heard and saw him I was also like, God this guy’s gay! But then the consequent talks made me realise how much he was trying and how much how many of his mannerisms were still possible due to all behavioural pattersn and hormones still in his body when thinking of a sex change. I felt sympathy that people still felt he needd to be a sort of ‘macho’ male to convice the public that he was no longer gay. I guess its more complicated than that, but having bought one of his CD’s and listening to him minister on sexuality I heard a person who was extremely well adjusted in his understanding, spiritually and psychologically toward the topic and not to mention a faultless public speaker. His wife should be grateful she has such a commited man despite his past brokenness. Go Sy!

  • Sophie, thanks for dropping in. Sorry I didn’t get a chance to reply before now. Life has been extremely busy.

I was very impressed with Sy when I spoke with him back in 2004.
