Things I hate about Facebook.

It’s kind of frightening how many of these things I could tick.

I certainly don’t hate Facebook but it really does have some annoying ‘features’.

So, what are the things you hate, or love, about Facebook?

Sorry? Can you say that again?

Train HornsAfter all the abuse I’ve dished out to my ears over the past few decades, I have no idea how a 45 year old man should be hearing what only young people should hear.

I would have been certain that the Hoodoo Gurus concerts, especially that one at the Old Melbourne, suffering through a night of U2 live, hearing David Bowie rock the Entertainment Centre and all those other musical treats would have done irreparable damage, but maybe not.

If only my eyes were still the eyes of a young man.

(By the way, I think maybe I need to update this post sometime with the concerts I’ve seen in the last few years. Check it out and tell me how many of those acts you’ve seen live.)

Thanks to Brian Eberly for the link to the audio test.

Paws for a Cause 2009

Paws_for_a_Cause.JPGI mentioned earlier this week that today would be spent celebrating Paws for a Cause 2009 with the RSPCA on 98.5 Sonshine FM.

From 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. I was joined by fellow announcer Tim Long and a number of special guests broadcasting live from Perth’s Forrest Place.

We spoke to Richard Barry from the RSPCA as well as RSPCA Ambassador Jessica Bratich and Channel 10 Weather Presenter Michael Shultz. My regular Friday morning guest, Jill Bonanno, was also part of the broadcast. You can see us hamming it up in the photo in this post.

It was an honour to spend the day supporting the RSPCA and its on going work protecting, housing and healing animals in need.

You can check out the photo gallery to see a few more pictures from the day.

What it said versus what I read

52e4gj.jpg

Do you ever read something and then draw your own conclusions?

Sometimes you’ve just got to come to your own kind of understanding.

This is part of what the News.com.au article titled Drinking coffee may reduce skin cancer said:

A US study has found caffeine plays a protective role for damaged skin by boosting the body’s natural process called apoptosis, or synchronised cell suicide.

Several earlier studies have linked drinking tea or coffee with a lower incidence of non-melanoma skin cancer, and scientists are now working to find out why.

It also follows a 2007 study of more than 93,000 women, which found for each additional cup of coffee they drank they had a 5 per cent decreased risk of developing non-melanoma skin cancer.

Drinking de-caffeinated coffee showed no such benefit.

Prof Mann, an expert in the genetic and environmental causes of skin cancer, said there was mounting evidence that caffeine played a “modest” role in preventing skin cancer.

“There are reasonable data from human epidemiology studies, supported by laboratory and animal studies, that caffeine, whether in tea or coffee, has a modest protective effect on skin cancer risk,” he said.

This is what I understood:

Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee. Drink more coffee.

Simple ways to stay in touch

feed-icon.pngDon’t you love it when you find ways to save time and simplify tasks? Isn’t it even better when it’s free?

Hopefully I can simplify the way you read this blog.

Did you know that you can read RodneyOlsen.net via email each day through FeedBlitz? Instead of having to visit my blog each day, it can visit you. Just click here, enter your email address, and you’ll never miss a post. You’ll get one email a day with anything I’ve posted on that day. It’s completely free and you can unsubscribe at any time so why not give it a go?

There’s also an orange button at the top of the right hand sidebar which makes updating easy if you read blogs through Bloglines, Google Reader, Yahoo, NewsGator, MSN or any other service. If you haven’t heard of RSS, Atom or site feeds before you can check out this article at Wikipedia for more information. Basically feeds make it a lot easier to read blogs and other information sources. If you read even a handful of blogs a day you can save a lot of time through feeds.

Can I encourage you to use one of these methods to get your free updates from RodneyOlsen.net? I’d love you to be part of the community that is continuing to grow here and I want to make it as easy as possible for you to stay in touch with every post.

Whichever way you choose to read my blog let me say thank you for doing so. I truly appreciate the fact that you take the time to read my random thoughts and participate in the conversation through your comments.
