Open House 3

Each Sunday evening Sheridan Voysey talks to a variety of authors, artists and personalities as part of his radio program, Open House. Together they cover a wide range of topics from faith to failure and along the way discover deeper life stories.

Some years ago Sheridan released a book version of Open House, containing transcripts of some of the most fascinating interviews he had conducted on the radio programme. Open House the book was so successful he released Open House 2 which again proved popular and led him to release the third in the series, Open House 3.

Open House 3 features guests such as Ray Martin, Geraldine Doogue, Caroline Jones, Bryce Courtenay and Joel Osteen.

Sheridan joined me on my program on 98.5 Sonshine FM this morning. Interviewing the interviewer is an interesting journey. I asked Sheridan a range of questions regarding the book and the process of interviewing the guests that take part in his program. You can hear our conversation by clicking on the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

Sheridan’s first book, Unseen Footprints: Encountering the Divine Along the Journey of Life, which was awarded as the 2006 Australian Christian Book of the Year, is also about to be re-released complete with study guide.

Overcoming the Black Dog

They call it the black dog. It’s an all consuming illness that drains us of our energy and joy, and magnifies despair.

It’s estimated that 1 in 10 people will experience depression during their lifetime.

While facing depression himself, Darren Speers found that there was a real need for a simple and clear guide to the illness. Drawing on personal experience and a degree in psychology, Darren has written Called to Hope, a book that looks at the symptoms and causes of depression, as well as the many treatments available.

Darren Speers has had depression (chronic dysthymia) since he was 21 years old. Since then, he has earned degrees in psychology and theology, and has worked as a gardener, factory hand, desk monkey, sales consultant, and freelance writer and editor.

When not writing, he tries to improve his knowledge of Greek and Hebrew, although he has some incompetency in German, can order a pizza in Latin, and inform speakers of French that he is a potato. For exercise he enjoys dancing, particularly to swing and blues music.

Earlier this year I spoke to Darren on 98.5 Sonshine FM. You can hear our discussion on depression and the writing of his book by clicking the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

StandWithUs

Michelle Rojas was brought up in America and is now based in Israel. As part of her work, she travels around the world and educates people on the situation in the Middle East. Earlier in the year she joined me in the studio at 98.5 Sonshine FM to talk about what’s happening in places like Israel.

She spoke about the organisation StandWithUs which is working to educate people about what’s really going on with the conflicts involving Israel and other countries in the Middle East.

StandWithUs is an international organization dedicated to bringing peace to the Middle East by educating about Israel and the misinformation that often surrounds the Middle East conflict. Through brochures, speakers, programs, conferences, missions to Israel, and Internet resources, we strive to ensure that Israel’s side of the story is told on university campuses and in communities, the media, libraries, and churches around the world. Please review our various Web sites for more information, and please join us today to help bring us closer to peace.

Michelle is absolutely passionate about her cause and you can hear what she has to say by clicking the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

Angus Lane at the Perth Royal Show

Angus Lane and his wife Vicki have been travelling around Australia for many years working at a variety of local agricultural shows. They’ve been coming to the Perth Royal Show for eleven years. Together they spend ten months of the year on the road.

Angus is the ground announcer. He commentates just about everything that happens on the main arena of the show every day of the event. That makes forsome very long days but he’s a master of what he does and is constantly talking to exhibitors and show workers to increase his knowledge of the topics he describes for the public.

I hope you enjoy watching the short video of my interview with Angus.
