I’m Bored

When was the last time you were bored?

I heard someone saying they were bored recently and I started to wonder when I could last say that I was bored. I do remember saying that I was bored when I was a child. That wouldn’t last long because mum would suggest that I relieve the boredom by cleaning my room. Suddenly life wasn’t so boring after all.

These days I can’t imagine ever being bored. Even if I have to wait endlessly for something or so someone I can enter new worlds by reading a book or magazine or even just think about a million different things. To me, boredom just shows a complete lack of imagination.

There always seems to be something to do and if there isn’t, a little imagination will open up a myriad of choices.

So how about you? Do you suffer from boredom? When was the last time you said, “I’m bored?”

  • Well actually…. Believe it or not I said it today! As a Mum of 4 children, it is a rare moment that I really have nothing to do but today I hit a wall. I have been stuck in bed for the last week with an eye infection which has meant that I can’t see to read, watch tv, sew or do anything very productive at all. Whilst I’ve been very grateful for my iPod, it’s very frustrating not being able to do much. I keep thinking I should make the most of this time to rest but when your joy actually comes from being a wife, Mum and friend, it’s very hard when you can’t be doing the things you’d normally be doing. So, yes it’s boring lying in bed with your eyes shut but it is also a great opportunity to rest, take stock of what’s really important in life and spend some time praying… novel!

    • I can totally understand your boredom.

I’m still praying for you and the family. I hope your eye heals quickly.

  • I’m rarely bored. The few occasions I have been is when I’ve been out somewhere and forced to wait with nothing to do in the meantime.

I think people have forgotten how to entertain themselves and have become too heavily reliant on electronic gadgets or other people. In Albany, where I grew up, there was always young people complaining of being bored. But when something was organised by youth for youth, they wouldn’t support it anyway.
