Google+

Now that it’s finally available for those of us using Google Apps accounts, I’ve jumped on board with Google+. I did create an account with my old Gmail address some time back but didn’t want to do too much with it until I could connect it with my own domain.

So now that I’m up and running …. what have I missed? Is Google+ really going anywhere? Can you see it replacing Facebook or is it just another “must have” online service?

Have you been using Google+ for a while and if so, what do you see as its advantages over other social networking? Will it really gain traction or slip away in coming months or years? I’d love to hear what you think.

And of course, you’re welcome to add me to your circles. You’ll find my Google+ account here.

Winning Twenty Million Dollars

Yesterday morning I heard that someone in Western Australia had won 20 million dollars. The Lotto winners, a suburban couple, claimed their prize yesterday. It’s the largest amount to be won in Western Australia so far this year and is the fourth biggest in WA history.

I can assure you that it wasn’t me who won. The fact that I’ve never bought a ticket in my life kind of guarantees that.

Obviously there are winners in all kinds of lotteries but the odds of winning a big prize aren’t all that good. I’ve done a little research and you’ve got a much better chance of being killed by lightning, being blackmailed or seriously injuring yourself while shaving. While I’d prefer to have 20 million dollars in my pocket than the other three options, I know that the chances aren’t all that great so I don’t bother buying tickets.

Mind you, that doesn’t stop me from thinking of what I would do with 20 million bucks if someone gave it to me. I’d be able to secure my financial future, help out some friends, and give some substantial funding to a number of causes I’m passionate about.

What would you do if you were suddenly 20 million dollars richer?

I know that most people would spend their money in the same way, whether they had a lot or very little. If you are generous when you don’t have much you’re likely to be generous if a large sum ever comes your way. If you’re the kind of person who only spends on themselves, you’re unlikely to become generous to others if you suddenly become rich.

I don’t have a lot of money but I do try to support causes that I believe in as much as possible. I’m very unlikely to ever find myself swimming in cash but if that ever happened, I hope that I would be generous with my money.

So, dream a little. How would use use $20 000 000?

Free Morning Tea

coffee.jpgThey say there’s no such thing as a free lunch but there is a free morning tea.

My apologies to those who don’t live close enough to Perth to take advantage of this but my Morning Café radio program on 98.5 Sonshine FM will be even tastier during our annual Radiothon next week.

I’m inviting a group of people each day to join me and my morning programme guests for morning tea from Monday the 14th to Friday the 18th of November.

The morning teas will run from 10:00 a.m. to around 11:30 a.m. and should be a lot of fun. It’d be great to catch up and it’s a wonderful opportunity for me to show off my workplace in Como.

We’ve done a similar thing over the last couple of years and had such a wonderful time. The food from Miss Maud is always outstanding and the coffee is spectacular. On top of that it’s a lot of fun meeting a variety of listeners and letting people see how radio works.

If you’d like to be part of the fun simply click here to email me at my work email address and tell me which day you can join me. If you’re one of the first 20 replies for each day you’ll enjoy a delicious, free morning tea at the Como studios of 98.5 Sonshine FM.

Why not get a group together and email me the details. I’d love to say hello.

Finally Home

One of the great advantages of having professional photographers on the Morning Café Cancer Ride team is that we have some amazing photographic memories of our journey. If you’re in the Perth area and need some fantastic photos, get in touch with S R Florisson Photography.

Moments before mounting our bikes to head out of Albany to start the ride from Albany to Perth.

A wet and windy afternoon heading into Pingelly.

The team facing some wild weather.

Smiles all around as the team pedals the last few hundred metres to finish a week of cycling.

Click on any of the photos to get a closer look.

It’s great to be home again after a wonderful week with an extraordinary bunch of people. I loved my time away but it’s wonderful to be home with my amazing family and to be able to sleep in my own bed again.

If you haven’t had opportunity to donate so far, please follow this link. Your contribution will go directly to Cancer Council Western Australia and to the amazing work they do. Donations of $2 and above are tax deductible in Australia.

Heading Home

The Morning Café Cancer Ride has seen a group of thirteen cyclists riding from Albany to Perth to raise funds for Cancer Council WA.

The team will arrive back at 98.5 Sonshine FM at 4:00 p.m. today, Saturday the 5th of November. We’d like to see as many people as possible joining us to welcome the team home.

If you’re in the Perth area please arrive at 98.5 Sonshine FM, Murray Street, Como, just before 4:00 p.m. and be ready to make a lot of noise.

We’re about to tackle our toughest day with a big climb out of York. 100 kilometres later we’ll be home after riding over 500 kilometres.

It’s not too late to donate. Just click the link in my sidebar. It’d be wonderful to see our tally climb as much as we’ll be climbing today.
