This Should be Interesting

I can’t stand the TV show Big Brother. I refuse to watch it, not just based on the kind of thing the contestants get up to, but on the way that the producers manipulate and destroy lives for the sake of ratings.

However, if I was in Italy I would be tempted to check out a few minutes of their upcoming Big Brother. The Vatican is not impressed and it may be a foolish decision but it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

A little on the warm side.

Rene has been talking about how cold it is at the moment. Apparently it was 20 below (fahrenheit) last night at his place. Very chilly.

It’s a little warmer here in Perth, Western Australia.

My thermometer says that it’s 46.5 celsius just outside our front door. That’s 115.7 fahrenheit. Thankfully we have air conditioning and it’s a bit cooler inside.

Our thermometer is probably a little on the warm side, catching some radiated heat off our house bricks. The official Perth temperature at the moment according to the Weather Bureau is a mere 40.2 celsius. (104.4 fahrenheit)

I’ll let the sun warm up our pool a bit and then head outside later when the sun isn’t quite so severe and have a dip.

Lost the Plot

Reading through a few more blogs today and came across rick & 1j13.

Rick highlighted something that I find quite disturbing. Worship Leader – 2003 Praise Awards. Now people can be judged by other people as to how well they praise God? Has it really gone this far? We’ve turned worship of the true and living God into an industry – a tacky one at that. How is it that these people can’t see that what they’re doing is wrong? How do we stop this kind of nonsense?

Reading Blogs

While reading a few blogs I had a quick scan through Phil Baker’s blog.

I found a couple of interesting links there. The first was a humorous site that highlights the misuse of Britain’s police emergency number. Drop by and listen to some of the ridiculous reasons that people call. One of my favourites was the man ringing to complain that his wife had gone out and all she had left him to eat was a couple of salmon sandwiches. Very life and death stuff.

The other site was quite a bit more serious. It’s an article printed late last year in The Age about the effects of pornography. Great to see some comments from the secular sphere about this worldwide problem.

Visions of Jesus

I recently stumbled upon the I See Jesus website. Interesting.

I’m sure it’s all tongue in cheek but it reminded me of visiting a small church building with an ‘apparition’ on the wall. No matter how long I looked at it, it simply looked like a bad plastering job with rising damp. The locals were adamant that it was a clear representation of Mary and Jesus.

The walls of the church were filled with small prayer cards. Obviously hundreds of people were convinced that God would hear their prayers better if they were offered up in the building with the bad plasterwork. (My favourite was someone who had placed a card asking for prayer for their sick ferret.) I can’t think of any rational reason, much less a scriptural one, that God would choose to work in this way yet people had traveled from all over the world to see this building. I just happened to be in town for a few days and dropped in to see what the fuss was about.

It’s sad that we let people get so distracted by stuff like that when we should be introducing them to the living Jesus, not some image on a wall that needs a good deal of squinting and imagination to see.
