FAST for FOOD – Day Eleven

Fast_for_Food.jpg

We’re now into the second week of FAST for FOOD which runs throughout November and is a response to the Global Food Crisis that is threatening millions of lives.

If this is the first you’ve heard of this initiative of Compassion you can read my earlier posts. Every 7 Seconds … and FAST for FOOD Explained.

Each day throughout November I’m posting a short Bible passage from the FAST for FOOD Calendar.

There is a theme for each week of the month and a passage to read as a focus of prayer.

The theme of week two is – RESPOND.

Ask God to show us clearly how He wants each of us to respond to the great need all around.

DAY 11 – 2 Corinthians 8:7 – Pray for a Generous Heart

But just as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

DAY 10 – Luke 18:15–17 – Pray Blessing

People were also bringing babies to Jesus to have him touch them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth; anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

DAY 9 – 2 Corinthians 9:6–11 – Give

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times; having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.” Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

As we begin to fast and pray, it is good to prepare our hearts and make sure that they are in alignment with God’s word. Meditate on these verses throughout the week.

DAY 7 – Galatians 5:13–14

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”
