Morning Chatter

I could hear small voices chattering at the other end of the house from quite early yesterday morning. Emily and James had obviously woken up and had plenty to talk about.

I got out of bed to start the day and as I wandered into the family room I heard bits and pieces of the conversation coming from their rooms. It had something to do with teeth and I figured it must have been in relation to James having a wobbly tooth. He’s 5 years old and so far he’s lost one baby tooth and another is on its way out.

The next thing I knew – out they wandered with 8 year old Emily’s huge smile revealing a small gap where a tooth used to be. She was so very proud of herself.

It all seems a million miles away from the little girl who was terrified of her baby teeth falling out when she first heard of the concept 5 or so years ago.

I remember that we tried to reassure her by saying that it wouldn’t happen until she was going to school. She decided right there that she was never going to go to school. Thankfully we got around that by never referring to ‘kindy’ or ‘pre-primary’ as school. After that she was fine with the whole idea.

  • My Ellie’s nearly 7 and still has all her teeth. She’s been telling me for ages that this one’s loose or that one’s wabbly, but a couple days later she seemed to be biting apples alright.

  • My second daughter Jamie had a black spot in her tooth and we had to take her to the dentist. She dreaded going, but after she went, she wanted to go back the next week, and she wanted to be a dentist when she grow up.
