I like traffic lights

I finally made it to work this morning. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to cross Tonkin Highway.

Several sets of traffic lights were out along Morley Drive. Crossing Beechboro Road was easy. It was even quicker than usual with everyone looking out for one another and letting people go through.

Tonkin Highway was a different story. The traffic just kept coming and no one looked as if they wanted to stop for the vehicles waiting to cross. It takes long enough there normally so it was particularly frustrating today. Finally the traffic eased in one direction and the cars opposite us started to move out into the intersection. It was only then that the traffic from the other direction slowed and stopped to let us cross.

There are so many times that we sit at traffic lights and think about what an inconvenience they are. Especially when you’re waiting at a red with not another vehicle in sight. But it’s times like this morning that you realise how necessary they are.
