A National Apology

Did you hear in today’s news that Australians are now richer than ever before?

Apparently private wealth increased by 18 per cent to a new record of $5 trillion in the year to June, which is an average of $250,000 per person.

That means that on average, every man, woman and child in Australia is worth a quarter of a million dollars. I know that we’re all doing pretty well in this country but I’m not sure about being worth a quarter of a million dollars.

Even by the time I factor in what we own of our house, our car and everything else we have, our family is just not keeping up the average. I get the feeling that we’re simply not pulling our weight and for that I apologise. I’m sorry that we’re being un-Australian in the richness stakes.

We’re open to offers from anyone that wants to help us become more average.

Oh well. Looks like I’ll just have to live with the shame.

  • My family too is letting all Australians down in the richness stakes!

I have a feeling there are many more out there!

I once read that in Australia something like 70% of the wealth is distributed amoung 5% of the population, with the remaining 95% of the population left to share the other 30%… !?

  • I must apologise too. I don’t even have a house or car at the moment I feel really ashamed. Shame! shame! shame!

  • I am worth $250,000 . . . . to my wife . . . . if I die. Well at least that’s what my insurance policy says.
