Walking on Weed

We were picnicking at Point Walter yesterday. It was very busy there with the warm weather. Lots of families enjoying the wonderful Perth conditions.

Emily and James couldn’t wait to finish lunch and go for a swim. I paddled around in the water too so I could keep an eye on them.

Emily’s quite a reasonable swimmer and she wanted to go and jump off the jetty. I told her we needed to swim up to the jetty so we knew exactly how deep it was before she started jumping in. The only problem was that we had to walk over a lot of weed on the river bed to get there. (Do you still call it sea weed when it’s in the river?)

I hate walking on anything but sand under the water and at any other time I would have simply decided not to bother, but when you have a daughter who wants to do something exciting it’s a bit different.

I walked through 50 or so metres of yucky weed, hating every step, sure that something evil was lurking beneath my feet, but determined to just do it. Isn’t it amazing what we’ll put up with when our kids are involved?
