Year One

I know that James is enjoying his holidays but it doesn’t stop him from getting excited about school. Some days ago he started talking about how he can’t wait to get back to school because he’s going to be in year one. He wants to know what it feels like to be a year one.

He’s thrilled about the whole deal. He’s excited about the fact that he’ll get his own desk, something he never had in Kindy or Pre-Primary. He has also been asking for a hand to work through a maths book that he’s had for a while.

I was thinking about his excitement a while ago and I remembered another small boy who was very enthusiastic about starting year one and who had completed several pages of his school maths book before school ever started. That was 36 years ago.

I’m sure that James will enjoy year one even more than I did way back then.
