The Taj

I hope the scaffolding is gone. I’m sure it will be.

A couple of years ago when I visited India there was some scaffolding at the front of the Taj Mahal. It was no great bother. They had to clean the miles of marble and the scaffolding wasn’t all that intrusive. It was still magnificent to see it right there before us.

I’ve been thinking that when I head to India in a few weeks I won’t get the opportunity to visit the Taj Mahal again. Our plans are quite different this time. Last time there was two of us and our ride started in Agra, the home of the Taj. This time there’s a group of 9 and our ride won’t take us anywhere near Agra.

I was speaking to the organiser of our event in India last night and mentioned that several of the group would like to visit Agara to see the Taj Mahal if at all possible but that we all understood that it might not happen. Richard seems to think that we may be able to arrange it.

I’m not getting my hopes up too high but I really do hope we get there. Standing in front of this great landmark last time was almost surreal. We had to stop and take in the fact that we really were standing in front of this very famous memorial.

I just love those moments in life where you have to tell yourself, “Yes – this is real – I’m really here – this is really happening”.
