It's back …

… and it’s wonderful.

Last weekend marked the beginning of the 2005 WAFL season. (Western Australian Football League) This weekend saw the start of the AFL season. (Australian Football League)

That means that my WAFL team has played two games so far, winning both. They’re being talked about as a real contender for the Premiership this year. Swan Districts has so far beaten Peel Thunder and East Fremantle so that’s no great indication as yet, but they’ll be up against tougher sides in the weeks to come and they’re expected to do well.

The two Western Australian teams in the AFL both grabbed wins this weekend. The Fremantle Dockers won against last year’s Premiers, Port Adelaide, and the West Coast Eagles beat the Adelaide Crows. I don’t imagine the football following public in South Australia is all that happy today.

West Coast Eagles, my favourite AFL team, is tipped to do great things this year. While I’m not a Dockers supporter as such, I do barrack for them in all but two games a year. Of course those games are the ones when they’re up against the Eagles.

I know that it’s incredibly early in the season, but I’m happy to savour the feeling of my three favourite teams having a perfect record so far.

  • Now Rodney, I’m a Subi supporter and we’re playing in two weeks time. How about some sort of friendly wager on the game?
