Oh what a night

After an afternoon of relaxing, making phone calls and doing a little shopping, we were invited to the home of the Noels’ for dinner. They are the coupld who run the YMCA.

We wandered up to their home on the top level of the YMCA building. There we were, 4 floors up, on a roof top garden. It was spectacular. They have many plants in pots but even more amazing is the 2 areas of lawn they have growing. Again, it was one of those surreal moments in time.

After a guitar was produced our host started playing and we started singing. We covered everything from gospel music to campfire favourites like Kum Ba Ya and She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain. We then started in on favourites from John Denver, Neal Diamond, The Beatles and a lot more. We even did a fairly decent version of Knock Three Times.

We needed to get up around 5:30 the next morning so it was decided that we wouldn’t wait until midnight to eat. Instead we started dinner around 10:30. Words cannot even begin to convey the spirit of the evening. We shared stories on everything from the changing face of India and it’s many regions to world politics. It was one of those ‘you had to be there’ moments.

We’ve all been invited back any time and with hosts like that, I think we’re all seriously considering the invitaion.
