For anyone who ever enjoyed the music of Crowded House, those of us who enjoyed Paul’s late night show on the ABC a few years ago or the many who were privileged enough to experience Paul’s work elsewhere in the music and entertainment industry, this is an awful shock.
LEGENDARY Crowded House drummer Paul Hester was found dead yesterday in a public park.
Hester, 46, the father of two young girls, failed to return from walking his two dogs, Stan and Rose, on Saturday night.
Police later found his body in Elsternwick park near his Melbourne home. They said there were no suspicious circumstances and friends said they had been unaware of Hester having been depressed.
While the above report from News.com.au (full report here)doesn’t say so, it hints that his death was by his own hand. It’s always sad to lose such talented people, especially when it is by suicide as in this case. What an incredible tragedy that this man who was so talented and so loved by so many people couldn’t see any reason to continue living.

You answered my question…I had just read that and over here they are not saying he committed sucide either.
I loved crowded house. What a sad thing.
I had never heard of Hester, but it’s always sad to read about someone’s death, especially a daddy. God be with his family and friends.
I remember watching his failed TV program on ABC many years ago; Hessy’s Shed (or something like that). Wasn’t particularly good, but Crowded House will always have a special place in all Australian music lover’s hearts.
I really liked Crowded house’s music and I was shocked to hear it on the news tonight. It actually made top story in NZ, showing how much his contribution to NZ and Australian music meant to a lot of people.
It’s sad that he went in such a tragic way.
Sad, sad news. 🙁
Anyone who knows me or read some of my previous posts, will know of my love for Crowded House and especially Paul Hester. The first time i saw a Crowded House video, he had me in bits and that was me sold on the band. So much in fact i went out that very afternoon and bought Woodface. Not being a musician myself, i have always admired the lengths rock stars go to, to embarrass themselves in videos, and Paul did this with great effect. Also i’m not forgetting that he was infact a very accomplished drummer in a very successful band. This man is also responsible for being in my top three musical influences of all time. Even though i never did get to meet the man, i got the impression he was loved very much by everyone who knew him and also had a sence of humor second to none. This has been a very sad loss for the music world, and i finally understand how people felt when the world lost Kurt Cobain. As a music fan, this been the lowest i have ever felt and i would also like to pass on my condolences to family, friends and fellow CH fans. Good bye and thank you Paul. You will be missed.
