As I mentioned earlier, we were at a Quiz Night on Saturday, but on the other side of Perth there was a concert that I would have loved to attend.
A 64 year old guy from the US was singing his heart out on stage at Subiaco Oval.
I got up Saturday morning and went straight to our CD collection to find Hot August Night. I put it on the stereo so that I could have my own Neil Diamond concert at home.
We weren’t able to go to the real thing on Saturday night but I didn’t intend letting our lack of funds make me miss out completely. I had my own Neil Diamond concert at home.
I was chatting to a friend on Sunday morning who went to the concert the night before and he told me how wonderful it was. Thankfully Pauline and I did get to a Neil Diamond concert at Burswood Dome a number of years ago. (It’s probably a bit embarrassing to admit that my eyes welled up with emotion as he walked out on stage at that concert so I won’t mention it.)
I know that he’s considered a bit cheesy by some people these days but he’s still a wonderful performer. Maybe we’ll get tickets next time he drops into Perth.

When I saw the title and the date I thought, oh no, it’s Monday already!
But in reality it’s still Sunday where I am. Good … I didn’t lose time 🙂
Rodney, you confessed, so I’ll confess. I had a crush on Neil Diamond when I was 10. I was in love with his voice and would pretend he was singing to me. Shhhhhh….don’t tell anyone! ::blush::
My wife, Kathy, is also a big fan of Neil Diamond. Apparently Hot August Night was one of the few records her parents had when she was a little girl, and she listened to it over and over. So she was hooked at a young age! Now Samuel (at 3) is starting to sing “Coming to America” (think that’s the title?)! Neil’s music obviously spans the generations.
By the way, you will have to update your “Recent Listening” list. Don’t see any Neil Diamond there 🙂
