Impressive … but not Bunbury

I’ve received a bunch of photos over the past couple of days from a couple of different sources. They claim to be shots of the recent storm that devastated the Bunbury CBD.

As you can see by this sample, they’re pretty impressive … but they’re not from Bunbury.

Firstly, the Bunbury storm happened in the very early hours of the morning while it was still mostly dark. These shots are mostly daytime photos. Secondly, when I checked the properties of the picture files it told me that the pics were taken last year. Thirdly, one of the shots shows a road with a car and a truck in the distance. They’re driving on the right hand side of the road.

I don’t understand the need for people to pass these photos off as something they’re not. I know that the people who sent me the photos did so in good faith. They simply forwarded some impressive photos that had already been labelled incorrectly.

Everything is not as it seems.

  • I received these photos as well, and I did wonder if they were authentic. They seemed a bit suss, with one photo looking like corn fields, don’t think Bunbury has any corn fields? I didn’t bother doing any investigative work as you did however.
These photos were shown on the Sunrise program this morning on Channel 7 with the presenters assuming they were authentic. Might just send them an email, pointing them to your blog to show the error of their ways.

  • I particularly liked the american style farmhouse. My folks live in Bunbury and I havent seen any properties that look remotely like this, not to mention their CBD is quite large with lots of buildings.

  • I was duped…and sent them on!

I heard they were from Cyclone Irene(/) up North later…but that still seems suss!
