Sorry … but I don't get it

There’s a reason that I’m the last blogger in the blogosphere to mention the final Star Wars film and its grand opening around the world. It doesn’t interest me in the least. I think I’d rather see a re-run of Revenge of the Nerds than sit through Revenge of the Sith.

I went to see the original Star Wars movie many years ago when it first came out and really quite enjoyed it, but I haven’t seen the need to see any of the subsequent offerings. The original was a great piece of escapism but I don’t understand the need to keep it all going. The whole thing leaves me cold.

And I have more confessions to make. I really haven’t got a clue as to why anyone would want to watch any of the Lord of the Rings movies. Also, despite urgings from many people who told me I’d love it, I have never seen Titanic.

My habit of avoiding blockbusters isn’t something new either. I still haven’t seen E.T.

Jurrasic Park, Independance Day, Gladiator, Pulp Fiction and so many others, considered by many to be classics, are piling up on my list of ‘thanks but no thanks’ movies.

Obviously there are dozens of wonderful movies that I have seen and loved. So now it’s your turn to confess. What are the must see movies that you’ve decided are must avoid movies?

  • Like you I tend to avoid things like Star Wars(begrudgingly dragged to that one yesterday), Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Harry Potter movies, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, ummm sure there’s a few more…umm…can’t thing of anything else at the moment. 🙂

  • Actually I haven’t mentioned Star Wars at all. I’m ramping up, letting the excitement build then I’ll launch into full blown jedipalooza on my blog.

Or, I may talk about my eyebrows, which seem to have gotten a little out of hand lately.

    There ya go.

  • Rodney, ditto. I don’t see how anyone would want to see TLOTR series after reading the books! Why ruin a good book by watching the movie?

I never saw Jurrasic Park, Independance Day, or Gladiator either, and we only lasted 20 minutes into Pulp Fiction (It bothers me that people can actually think this stuff up!). Titanic was HIGHLY overrated — you didn’t miss anything.

I suppose I got turned off popular movies forever when that horrible movie “American Beauty” won an Oscar for Best Picture.

Nice to bump into someone who doesn’t worship Hollywood movies.

  • i’ve missed reading you blogs Rodney, i was just catching up here (work and slow modems are working against my blogging!!) …

i don’t do movies much either … i catch them on tv years later, if they “hold up” !!!

hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

  • Must See and Love: Forrest Gump
Avoided like the Plague: Thin Red Line

PS Anything with Tom Hanks in it I’ll see but that doesn’t mean I like all of his movies – The Lady Killers was a disapointment I thought.

  • I saw E.T written on your post and that is the closest I’ve been to it in years. I don’t feel like I missed anything by missing that movie. Wish I hadn’t seen is the post you should start. Put 2001 and Close Encounters on that list… I did need to see the Lord of the Rings movies because I could never get through the books. I loved the Hobbit but every time I start the trilogy I’m asleep in seconds. – Heard a new Chronicles of Narnia – Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe is coming out. I’ll see that for sure.

  • I’ve read the LOTR books and i’ve seen the movie, i loved the books and the movies were good the first time around. I can’t stand watching purely action movies, so avoid XXX & XXX2.
You all say movies that you wouldn’t see but i would like to know the kinds of movies you do watch.
I assume you only go to Luna and Paridiso.

  • i love to watch the LOTR movies. it’s a fun way to spend a rainy sunday! the music and imagery are great. it’s good storytelling!

  • DIDDO! I wouldn’t touch it. Not a fan. Actually, I have an ebay store link 24/7 365 for my brother on my site, it’s been there since I started my blog, so nothing new! LOL Take Care!
