Dogs and bicycles

I was looking through some of my photos from India earlier this evening and I had to smile when I spotted this photo.

As soon as I saw this sign I knew I had to grab a snap. After all, I was in India on a cycling adventure.

It seems that, according to this sign at least, you are in great danger of being bitten by a dog if you ride a bike in India. I managed to avoid being bitten by any of the local canine population. The closest I got, as far as animal attacks go, was my monkey attack which I described here.

The sign was in the window of a doctor’s surgery in a shopping area in the city of Chandigarh. Thankfully I didn’t need to visit the DOG BITE TREATMENT CENTRE. Unfortunately, that meant that I never got to meet Dr. G.P. Gupta and so I can’t tell you just how affordable immunity was at his clinic.

The strange thing about the dogs in India is that during my 2003 trip I don’t recall seeing many dogs at all. We did see a couple of very healthy dogs at places we stayed and a few strays but that was about it. When we were there in February / March this year there were mangy, stray dogs everywhere. They seem very timid so there wasn’t really much concern about being attacked.

  • Totally off topic, but Rodney, what happened to Johnny Lee Clary being on enough rope this week? πŸ™

  • Thanks for your wishes on the Blog Battle, indeterminancy. Looks like you got the best of the battle. πŸ™‚

Hi Paula. It seems that they changed their minds. They were promoting it right up until the weekend and then they got an exclusive interview with Di Fingelton who had just hda her conviction quashed.

It doesn’t look like he’ll be on this Monday either. The interview will probably come up within the next few weeks when they get another space.

  • Thanks for the comment over at my blog. I can’t say for sure which of us won, or what the margin was. I just figure this battle thing is the best way to use up the credits. More visitors, more exposure than just popping up in the surf list from time to time. Your blog is great and I hope to have more time during my coming vacation to read a bit more. (There are so many blogs I like I don’t know how to read them all!)

  • Hi Rodney…I was just about to let you know that they changed their minds – I shot an email off to the ABC and this is what they said:

    Dear Paula,

Thank you for your email in relation to Johnny Lee Clary. We rescheduled his
interview due to the exclusive interview with Di Fingleton. Unfortunately, at
this stage we are unable to tell you when we will be broadcasting his interview.

Please continue to check our website for upcoming guests on ENOUGH ROPE with
    Andrew Denton.
The right hand side of the home page will let
you know the Guest coming up on the next show.

    Sincerely,
    ENOUGH ROPE Production Office

  • I remember this little trailer park I lived in as a kid. I was always on the lookout for dogs. Sometimes one or two would give chase, sometimes a pack of them would. You never wanted to be caught on foot though.

  • Love the poster … brings things into new light … I would hate to have been bitten by a snake then … where oh where would you have gone?
