I don't get it

Apparently people are getting more than a little angry at the current series of Big Brother after two contestants, or should that be inmates, had sex.

Am I missing something? Isn’t that what they’ve been trying to engineer all along?

I have never watched the programme because I think it is not only voyeristic but it takes advantage of greed and a desire for fame to throw a bunch of young people to the lions on national television. I have heard all the arguments that people know what they’re getting into when they sign up for the show but I don’t believe that anyone truly knows what the show has the power to do to their lives.

I agree with those who are condemning the programme but where were they earlier? Surely they understood that Big Brother was always about manufacturing sexual tension and bringing out the worst of human nature for the viewing ‘pleasure’ of the general public.

I choose not to watch this kind of TV. I think that it is small minded, demeaning television and is about as far removed from reality as possible.

If other people want to create this kind of programming and a large slice of the population chooses to watch it, that is their choice. What concerns me is that surveys are showing that thousands of kids between the ages of 5 to 12 are watching the late night uncut version of the show which is where the ‘action really heats up’. Where are their parents? Why are they allowing children of this age to watch this kind of behaviour?

I will continue to protest my disaproval of this show by simply not watching it. I hope that a few parents will also start showing a bit of control by stopping their kids viewing Big Brother too.

  • Hey Rodney – I totally agree with you and never watch this stuff. I don’t like the whole concept behind it, and that all these things are done for ratings….

  • “Reality TV”: A show prepared on the cheap using a bunch of wannabe B-grade actors who weren’t good enough to do anything else to get their head on TV. It’s a complete con — apparently a series of “Outback” Survivor was shot at Beaudesert, which is a town of 5,000 or so, about 65km from Brisbane. Heck, I grew up in a town more remote than that, where’s my prize?

  • Sometimes I can’t help but wonder how far reality shows will really go… I’m a huge fan, mind you, but it seems like they’re constantly pushing the lines.
