I had a very interesting chat on-air this morning with Rob Furlong, the pastor of Thornlie Church of Christ.
Rob leads a course called Pure Desire which is a 22 week small group course designed for men who are, or know of someone, struggling with sexual addiction and pornography. The course aims to give blokes an effective strategy against all forms of sexual addiction.
His wife, Karen, runs a course called Betrayed Heart which helps women who feel betrayed by their husband’s sexual struggles. It allows them to feel the hurt and anger that naturally comes from being passed over for an image on a screen or even for another woman.
The interesting thing for Rob is that every time a guy admits to having a problem with pornography or other sexual addictions and describes their battle, they feel that they are the only one dealing with those issuses. Being able to share their story in a group where confidentiality is assured is enormously freeing for those involved and is the first step on the road to recovery.
