Have you ever heard kids say that they wish that every day could be Christmas Day or their birthday? As soon as you hear them say it you groan inside thinking, “I’m glad it’s not”, and you try to explain that if it was a special day every day it wouldn’t be special any more?
I was thinking similar thoughts this morning when I saw some little packs of Toblerone in the kitchen at work being sold as a fundraiser.
When did Toblerone become an every day chocolate? Is there a memo that I missed? I remember Toblerone being a special treat. Something that you only have every now and then.
I was also thinking back to days of growing up when we would have take away chicken as a very special treat. The ‘local’ Red Rooster was several suburbs away but every now and then we would take the big drive and buy some chicken and chips for the family. These days there’s a take away of every description around every corner. It’s no longer a special treat.
It’s one of those strange paradoxes. The more you have of something special, the less special it becomes. When we deny ourselves of something for a season we can enjoy it all the more.
Mind you, I haven’t actually had Toblerone for a while so I may just have to indulge in a pack … as a special treat of course.

my easter present from my parents this year was a HUGE toblerone. Can’t remember if it was 500g or 1kg. Took me a while to get through it though 🙂
Oh, right. Ahem. Ignore my comments over at Hazel Blackberry’s. Carry on.
Oh, for goodness sake. Hazel Blackberry, of “A Bex and a Good Lie Down” fame.
I need a chocolate.
Mmmm I agree. Toblerones should be saved for special occassions. 🙂
