The world's greatest sporting event

I’m looking forward to catching up on a little bit of sleep next week. With the live coverage of the Tour de France over the last couple of weeks I’ve been up very late each night.

The 3 week race finishes on Sunday and it looks as if it’ll be number 7 for Lance Armstrong. He’s put himself in a very strong position.

From Australia’s point of view, there’s an outside chance that either Stuart O’Grady or Robbie McEwan will head home with the green sprinters jersey. I’d like to see O’Grady take it.

In the overall standings the Aussie to watch is Cadel Evans. In his first ever Tour de France he has moved up to 7th overall with a magnificent ride in yesterday’s stage. I would imagine that he’ll move further up the placings over the next couple of days, especially with an individual time trial still to come. While he won’t take the yellow jersey this year, he may grab a top 5 finish.

I know that the 2005 Tour de France isn’t over yet but with a real contender like Cadel Evans on the way up, I can’t wait for next year’s event.

  • What about cricket? Australia are on their toughest Ashes tours in over a decade. I’m a cricket fanatic and if you do like the game, drop by my blog. I’d love to hear your comments.

  • Cricket . . . . . . yes, well, let us not mention the cricket. Our TDF coverage was seriously interrupted by the cricket last night here in Australia. There are many unhappy cycling fans in Australia this morning!!
