Did you watch any of the Tour de France over the past few weeks? It was amazing to see the world’s greatest sporting event live on television here in Perth. I joined the many millions of viewers around the world as well as the millions who stood by the side of the road. Great to see Lance Armstrong finish his career with a record breaking 7th win.
There were a number of times that the roadside crowd was estimated to be well over half a million. It’s an amazing feeling to be amongst 40 000 or so screaming fans watching the football at Subiaco Oval, but imagine being in a crowd of 500 000 or more.
One of these years I would love to go to France in July to see the event live. At the moment I’m just looking forward to catching up on some sleep instead of being up late each night watching the 21 stages. In the meantime, I’ll just ask that you be gentle with me as I go through Tour de France withdrawals.

Fantastic to see Lance Armstrong win his record breaking 7th Tour in a row. Was it ever in doubt?? I think this record will probably not be broken, well at least not for eight years!

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Le Tour live. It was once when I was young, they had the start of the Tour de France in the Netherlands. But what was I surprised how fast those couple of hundred cyclists passsed by. It took a few seconds.. and then the show was all over. But then again flat land, and close to the start is not the best place to see it. Seeing the Tour in the Alps, that would be the best.
