I see that a British adventurer is hoping for a place in the record books by crossing the North Atlantic Ocean in a tiny 4.26 metre boat. The boat will be powered by a kite.
Dom Mee, a 34 year old former Royal Marine commando, set off on Thursday from Canada, hoping to travel 5 630 km to reach England in 35 days. (You can follow his adventure by clicking here.)
The craft only has room for him, 60 days worth of food and a 10 metre square kite that should give it speeds of up to eight knots.
Whenever someone takes on an adventure like this they usually say they’re doing it because no one has ever done it before. I like what US comedian Rita Rudner said about that reasoning. She figures they should just vacuum behind her couch because no one has ever done that before.
I admire Dom and wish him well but if it comes down to sailing the ocean in a tiny boat or cleaning behind Rita’s couch …. I’ll take the couch every time.

Speaking of adventures, I hope you caught last night’s doco on SBS about the cricket team, the Abbotsford Anglers, and their month-long cricket tour of India. If you missed it, I’m sure it will be repeated. Some fruity language, but very enjoyable.
Reminds me of these guys, one of whom I grew up in Zimbabwe with. An incredible story!
(more here and here)
How come he took food for 60 days when it is gonna take him 35? It took me 35 days to ride from Perth to Sydney on a pushy. It would’ve taken less if Rodney had captained the ride to Sydney instead of veering off to Melbourne and then Hobart!
I’d probably take the couch too.
