Road kill

I was reading this morning that police in England recently set up a road block so they could retrieve a toy from the middle of a busy motorway. Apparently Simon Osborn called officers after his 10 year old daughter, Amy, dropped Tyrone, her toy tiger, out the car window.

Police spotted Tyrone in the centre of the road. A temporary rolling road block slowed traffic down so an officer could rescue Tyrone, who was then sent back to Amy in the post.

I don’t think there was such a happy ending for the owners of a Gas BBQ that was blocking one lane of Great Eastern Highway yesterday afternoon. I was on my way out and noticed that one lane of traffic had stopped. In front of the column of cars was several pieces of wood and a hot plate attached by a hose to a gas bottle. It didn’t look too good.

The strange thing was that I couldn’t see what vehicle had lost its load. I wonder if they hadn’t even realised that it had slipped off the back of their vehicle. Maybe they arrived at their destination only to realise what had happened and unleash a barrage of creative expletives.

I guess they must have opted for take away last night.

  • Hmmm, must be the season for gas BBQ’s on the road. I was driving home last week and thought to myself “hmm, unusual location for a BBQ?” after I saw one on a traffic island on the Mill Point Rd freeway off ramp here in Perth.
