It’s good to know that we won’t be the same people in 10 years as we are now. We will have grown emotionally, spiritually and in many other ways.
I reckon that when I look back on some of my early blog posts in a few years I’ll say to myself, “What was I thinking?” It’s all part of the journey.
One man who has changed over the years is Geoff Bullock. He was once one of the ‘movers and shakers’ at Hillsong Church. His songs were being sung by churches around the world. Through a number of circumstances his life took some unexpected turns. He comments on his time at Hillsong here.
His understanding of God and of his grace have changed radically and so he’s now gone back to many of his well know songs to re-write them so that they reflect his greater understanding of God’s grace.
Phil at Signposts has been publishing several of the new versions. He is also including the earlier versions to show the contrast between them. You can read several of Geoff Bullock’s re-written lyrics here.

You write with a great deal of thought. As you can tell by the name of my blog, I want to make a difference in the lives of others. I get the impression from your blog that you are trying to do the same thing.
Keep doing what you’re doing.

I’m pretty glad I’m not the same person as I was 10 years ago too.
I am glad that Geoff Bullock feels free to re-write some of his lyrics. After more than 10 years working as a youth evangelism worker, I know that a few of the unchurched kids I worked with did a bit of reworking of his lyrics too 😉 Probably not as edifying as he would like…
Although it is fair to note: in some cases, people outside of the Church circle find some Christian song lyrics are ‘hard to get a handle on.’ We might need the occasional reminder that “Christian concepts” aren’t always readily understood in general society. Maybe a sensorship category at the start of Christian TV shows…? 🙂
“Warning. This program contains Christian concepts. You watch this program at your own risk.” 🙂
