We celebrated Fathers Day yesterday here in Australia.
Among the wonderful gifts that Emily and James presented to me yesterday morning for Fathers Day was a DVD of David Bowie in concert during his mid 80’s Serious Moonlight Tour. That particular tour was on the back of the 1983 album, Let’s Dance.
I remember going to the concert when it came to Perth and thinking how wonderful it was but parts of my memory had faded.
I put on the DVD and saw the familiar staging that I remember from concert, then out came Bowie with peroxide blonde, permed hair. I had forgotten the horrible fashions that were around at the time.
I dug deep and dragged out the tour souvenir book that I’ve kept all these years and it was littered with photos of David Bowie and his questionable fashion sense.
Then I discovered something else that I had forgotten. As I watched the DVD further I started to remember just how good Bowie’s voice is in concert. His 80’s fashion sense may not have lasted the distance but his performance certainly has.
Now my big decision is whether to sit down tonight and watch the whole DVD through or spend the evening destroying all photos of me from the 80s so that they never come back to haunt me.
