Do you have any phobias? Can you look a spider in the eye without shivering? Are you worried about small spaces? Do you have a problem flying?
My big one is heights. I don’t know what caused it but I’m not at all good with heights of any kind. Strangely enough I love flying but standing on the edge of a cliff or looking out the window of a very tall building isn’t a happy experience for me.
I’ve been OK with my phobia for years but I do think it’s been getting slowly worse. when we were at the Perth Royal Show a couple of days back I looked at some of the show rides that I would have gone on in the past and thought ‘no way’.
I’ve always thought that my phobia only affects me so it’s not such a problem. That was until Wednesday evening when my daredevil daughter wanted me to go a ride with her. Emily begged me but I couldn’t bring myself to get on the ride with her. Pauline took up the task and I went on another ride with James.
I could see the disappointment in Emily’s eyes and it wasn’t good. I don’t know how but I figure it’s time to start tackling the height issue. I need to start working towards being OK with being up high.
Emily, next year I’ll go on that ride with you.

Do you think some of your friends would enjoy reading Heights? Please use the buttons below to share the post. Thanks.
Maybe you could start with riding a penny farthing? Now they would scare me, and I am not particularly worried by heights!
Spiders, now they are a different kettle of fish (not that I have ever seen a kettle of fish to know if they are really different or not . . . but I digress). My earliest memory is being scared witless by an enormous spider in my cot when I was maybe only 2 years old (well it certainly seemed enormous to a 2 year old). To this day spiders still give me the heebeegeebees, huntsmen in particular!
Spiders. Ugh. Deep, unfathomable, primal fear.
I too am terrified of spiders. But my real fear is “coprophobia.” That’s the fear of poop. It’s been a real problem – especially with my son. He has “explosive diaper syndrome.” And worst of all it has resulted in some rather disturbing key word searches on my blog.
I AM WITH YOU! I have a fear of heights too. Yesterday some friends were talking about the view from the 17th floor of a building and I got nervous! Just hearing about it! I can’t go to the top of a stadium to sit, I just can’t be that high. I don’t look down when driving on a mountain road, I will not go on any rides that involve going up and I WILL NOT stand on the edge of a cliff.
I guess I am missing out on a lot of things.
I don’t like heights, and I don’t like to be turned upside down, and therefore, I just can’t ride those rides.
I am also a tad clausterphobic. I don’t like elevators.
I suppose those are two fears that I have.
I have panic attacks in crowds of people. So I avoid concerts, ball games, and grocery stores except in the middle of the night.
