With the new Wallace and Gromit movie, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, not being released in Australia for another 10 days and not being released in the US until next month, security was pretty tight at yesterday’s preview screening.
We had to hand in our mobile phones which were bagged and tagged for our retrieval after the movie.
We also had to have some security men wave their magic metal detector wands over us to make sure that we weren’t taking hidden recording devices into the movie.
The guy looking after me waved his detector over my right pocket. Beep beep beep. I pulled my wallet out and he tried again. No problem. He then tried my left pocket. Beep beep beep. I pulled my keys out and he tried again. No problem.
After the whole security thing we wandered into the cinema to sit down. I pulled the back pack that I had over my shoulder down and placed it on the floor. That’s when it hit me. I hadn’t tried to smuggle the pack pack in but they hadn’t checked it at all. It could have had a full camera set up in there and that would have been fine because I didn’t have a camera in my pockets. As it was, the back pack only had our water bottles and a few snacks inside.
So there you have it. The best way to smuggle something past security is to hide it in a really obvious back pack slung across your shoulder.

saw a preview on TV the other night…looks great.
I know a kid who went through a wallace & grommit phase – all he’d eat was cheese and crackers….but then he’d only answer to “Po” for a while there too…(telletubbies reference…)
