What can I say?

When it comes to something as huge as the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, it’s hard to know what to say which is why I haven’t been posting about what has happened to this point.

Everywhere I look across the blogosphere people are posting about what has happened. Everytime I see a newspaper, hear radio news or watch television, it’s all about Katrina.

I’m torn between the cries of those who think that help isn’t arriving quickly enough and the knowledge that this is such a massive operation that it will take a lot of time to reach everyone. My heart is saddened to see the fear on the faces of survivors as they try to survive the violence. I’m saddened further at the thought of so many people who have lost those closest to them. On top of losing partners, family and friends, they face an uncertain future with the loss of all their belongings. The rebuilding of towns, cities and lives will be a painful process.

There are many more emotions that I experience as I see each new report. Anger, sympathy, saddness and so much more.

As always with such tragedies I’m also wondering why we don’t pay as much attention to the thousands who die each day due to thirst, hunger and preventable diseases in developing countries.

It’s impossible to voice everything I’m feeling and it’s hard to feel so helpless.

For now I’ll continue to pray for those affected and for those who are doing everything they can to help.
