The countdown has well and truly begun. James turns 7 on the 30th of October so each morning we’re getting a report on how many days it is until his birthday. He’s getting very excited and he’s been telling us what he would like to do with his special day.
Do you remember that anticipation as birthdays drew near? How far out did you start to count down the days? Maybe you still do. As adults we have to be a little bit more casual in our response to growing a year older but it’s still nice to have your own special day.
One of the plans that James came up with today put a smile on my face. He asked if, for his birthday, we could take his best friend in to have a look around 98.5 Sonshine FM. How cool is that? My boy thinks that his dad works in such an interesting place that it would be a treat to show it off to his friend.
Makes me remember the days when I would take a friend down to Fremantle with me to hang out on the cargo ship that my dad worked on as a cook when I was growing up. We would clamber up and down the stairs and wander out onto the deck. Then we’d go walk around the North Mole and watch people fishing. Dad would make us special meals and it was all so exciting. I certainly hope that my dad felt just as proud then as I do now of James wanting to hang out at my workplace.

I’m sure your dad was every bit as proud! As far as any math related to my birthday, it seems to be less about count down and more about figuring my age on the fly 😉
I used to wonder about people who couldn’t remember their age immediately. “How could that be?” I used to think.
I now find myself doing the same thing. 🙂
I’m still young enough I count (actually my browser counts it 46 day, 6 hours, 56 minutes) LOL.
Oopsy – I mean 36 days sigh LOL!
I remember counting down the days to my 18th birthday excitedly, then being really disappointed when I had actually turned 18. Somehow nothing had really changed! These days I count down the days to my holidays.
I’m with you Chris. I love my work but you just can’t beat a good holiday.
I love the feeling a birthday gives…and holidays also. Family… friends…food…it’s all wrapped into one. I loved to go visit my dad at his work when I was older… he’s a teacher and to visit him when I was little was not a good thing, if you know what I mean.
