Quirkie tagged me. Now it’s my turn to tell you 20 things about you that you don’t already know.

1. I am the 5th of 5 siblings. (3 brothers, 1 sister)

2. My father was a chef.

3. I completed a four year apprenticeship as a chef. It’s my only real qualification. (One of my brothers is also a chef.)

4. My parents have both passed away. Mum died when I was in my early 20s. Dad died just over three years back. I guess that means I’m an orphan.

5. Until I reached 17 I was a Holden fanatic. I even had a couple of t-shirts to prove it.

6. I have only ever owned Fords. One Cortina, two Transit vans, two Falcons, an Escort and a Fairmont. I no longer own a car. The car we have now is Pauline’s. I have a couple of bicycles.

7. Until I reached 16 I didn’t know how to ride a bike. I’ve made up for that since.

8. I was a consultant on a Channel 7 music video show called Solid Rock.

9. I was a writer on Channel 10 music video show called Front Row.

10. I got my driver’s license on my 17th birthday on my first test. 17 is the legal driving age here.

11. I have cycled across Australia 5 times. Twice from Perth to Canberra, once from Perth to Adelaide, once from Perth to Sydney and once from Perth to Hobart.

12. I would like to cycle all the way around Australia when I retire.

13. A lot of people used to tell me I looked like Mel Smith from Not the Nine O’Clock News and Alas Smith and Jones.

14. Mel Smith did a classic double take when I met him back stage after a Smith & Jones show at the Perth Concert Hall.

15. When I was young I learned to play piano accordian for a few years. I was never very good.

16. At the height of their popularity, my bedroom wall used to be plastered in pictures of ABBA.

17. I stopped taking milk in tea and coffee nine and a half years ago.

18. Many years ago in the city, a woman approached me at an event and asked me if I was Rodney Olsen. When I said yes she thrust a thousand dollars into my hand and then dissapeared into the crowd. It was just one of the weird ways that God has provided for us during the tough times over the years.

19. On my first bike ride across Australia I seriously damaged my knees and they were causing me increasingly extreme pain each day. After getting off the bike one night I told God that I couldn’t ride like that the next day. I woke up with my knees completely restored. No pain at all for the rest of the trip.

20. Even though my dad smoked heavily for years, I have never smoked or even had a puff of a cigarette.

Rather than tag anyone specifically, I’d love to see 5 people put up their hands for this one. If you want to take part, let me know in the comments below.
