Sunday in the valley

On Sunday night we were at Sandalford Winery for the first ever Carols in the Valley, presented by Swan City Church.

The event organisers did a fantastic job. There was probably between 7000 and 8000 people enjoying themselves on the grassy slopes of the winery. The weather was just perfect for an outdoor event.

The entertainment was first class including Australian Idol’s Courtney Murphy, The Australian Opera Studio, jazz pianist Ben Nichols, a great live band and a 40 voice choir topped off with an awesome fireworks finale.

Courtney Murphy was the obvious crowd favourite and he didn’t dissapoint. He came on stage wearing a Santa jacket and hat and performed like the true showman that he is.

There’s always something wonderful about fireworks close up. There were lots of oohs and aahs as the shells exploded overhead.

A team of us from 98.5 Sonshine FM were there to say hello to the assembled masses. It was fun to be able to meet many listeners and to promote the radio station to others who are not yet listeners. The photo shows just a few of us in our tent.

  • I’m a bit wary of fireworks now – saw them a bit too close on Australia Day and ended up with burning ash in my eye…now I prefer to see them from at least 1 metre away. They don’t have the same effect when they’re actually in your eye 🙂
