A funny cure

While most of us would agree that there’s nothing funny about being ill, we’re being told once again that we should have a good laugh to help us recover from whatever ails us.

This article from News.com.au tells us that laughter may well be the best medicine and a Japanese scientist is out to prove it. Mr Murakami’s theory is that laughter is a stimulant which can trigger energy inside a person’s DNA, potentially helping cure disease.

Can you imagine the changes this could make to health care? Instead of sending us to a pharmacy to fill a prescription for antibiotics, we may soon be given a DVD store membership and be told to go rent a Jim Carrey movie. Group therapy would be replaced by live comedy shows.

For the really serious health issues we may have to have a private appointment with Robin Williams or Shaun Micaleff.

What tickles your funny bone? Who keeps you healthy by keeping you laughing?

Next time I’m feeling sick I’ll sit myself in front of the TV and put on my Ross Noble DVD.

  • No one makes me laugh out loud like my brother. He’s a really funny guy and we have a heap of verbal games we’ve played since we were kids. I miss him a lot now that he’s in PNG.
