I can jump 'in' puddles

We woke up to some fairly significant rainfalls today. Even though we’re in the middle of Summer, we’re experiencing the after effects of a cyclone that battered the coast of north Western Australia.

I always forget just how much fun it is to ride in the rain until we get a day like today. I cycled to work on my mountain bike, not concerned about the pupples and potholes. Dealing with wet clothes day after day can be a bit annoying so I do sometimes wish that the rain would go away and come back another day in the middle of Winter but a couple of days like this are fine.

Riding in the rain can make you feel like a kid all over again. When was the last time you rode a bike in the rain? What about the last time you took a walk in the rain?

Next time it rains at your place, instead of dreading having to keep your kids inside all day or trying to avoid getting wet yourself, why not head out for a walk in the rain? Go find some puddles to jump in and enjoy feeling like a kid again.

  • Back in 1999 when my three kids were shorter than me, we went to Hervey Bay in Queensland for the Christmas holidays. It was hot and humid and then the heavens opened and it rained bucket loads. We went for a walk up the bush track in the rain and had the most wonderful time! The “kids” still talk about that day and the fun they had “playing in the rain”.

Yeah – never let the kid inside you die.

  • It rained on wednesday night – the first night of planetshakers in sydney. And I was parked in P4, which is approximately a 10 minute walk…so I walked, even wandered back to my car. There’s nothing like walking in a rain storm, especially when it’s still warm ๐Ÿ™‚

When I was little, we had gumboots with built-in measuring tapes up the back of them…so of course, every puddle had to be measured. Occasionally we jumped in a few (mainly at the farm) that were deeper than the maximum 30cm ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Last time I rode a bike in the rain was Wednesday morning. It was beautiful, but on Tuesday Evening I rode across some seriously flooded creeks. Now that was awesome!
