When do you stop thinking of household appliances as new? For instance, how long after buying a fridge, washing machine or stereo do you no longer consider that it’s a recent purchase?
James informed me yesterday morning that the batteries in the TV remote control were flat. I thought I’d better have a look so I wandered into the family room and looked at the television. No little red light on the front. Mmm.
I tried turning the telly on but soon realised that it had nothing to do with the remote. It would appear that the power supply in the set has failed. With the cost of repairs these days it’s often cheaper to replace electrical equipment so it means that we probably need a new TV.
I found it a bit annoying because it’s a fairly new set. We haven’t had it for that long. I searched out the users manual to get the model number and noticed the original receipt stapled to it. We bought it on the 8th of June 1995. Wow. That’s more than ten and a half years ago.
That means it’s the only family room TV our kids have ever known. I suppose we have had a fairly good run with it after all.
Mind you, we still have a portable set that Pauline bought well over 20 years ago. It doesn’t get SBS or tune into any modern VCRs or DVD players, but it’s still doing just fine.

Hi Rodney, Hope all is well with you. Check my site please. I’ve tagged you for a quick “4 Things.”
And now the real fun begins – what size? CRT? LCD? Plasma? HD or SD? Where to buy it from? Do I get the extended warranty or not?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
