I mentioned a couple of posts back that I would post a few more photos from my trips to India. I don’t know quite what it is about this image but I like it a lot. Maybe it’s just because I was there and it reminds me of the time I spent in India. I hope it’s of interest to you too. You can click on the photo for a better look.
It’s a quick snap that I took in February last year as we were about to leave an area we had just visited.
We had a group of about 50 or so cyclists and a couple of motorbikes that had travelled along a fairly rough road to visit a group of people at their local church.
For 3 days we cycled from church to church visiting a range of very different areas from inner city to semi-rural. We would be welcomed, given something to eat, along with a few cups of chai, and then spend a little time singing and talking about why we were there. I must admit that I didn’t do a lot in the way of singing. It’s a little hard when all the songs are in Hindi. I’ve been wondering over the past couple of days whether I should try to learn some Hindi to give me even greater incentive to head back to India in 2010.
Just as we all do when we hear unusual noises in our neighbourhood, this lady came out to see what all the fuss was about as we were saddling up to move on to the next community. I saw her standing at her front door and grabbed for my camera.

Hey Rodney,
It’s good photo! I like the composition (old lady in the lower corner with all this concrete around her). I guess more intriguing is the story. Is she as alone as she looks? What’s behind that wall? So on.
I spent a little bit of time in India, and while I can’t say I fell in love with it (you have to be immersed in India to love it, I have decided) it certainly is an intriguing country.
On the language front – I have a friend who started learning Chinese and is contemplating his second trip to China, and would like to make a longer term commitment. Look out where that might take you!
I like this photo, Rodney. It’s the kind of photo that makes me want to visit that exact spot.
She probably doesn’t realize so many people will see her picture and think about her.
