Imagine walking through the Ikea car park, pushing a packed shopping trolley, dressed like a wedding party. That’s what we did last night.
We had all kinds of looks from other shoppers but by that stage we were used to strange looks. We had just driven all the way across town in a friend’s Toyota Tarago van.
Pauline was drawn as a winner in an Ikea competition which one of her sisters entered on her behalf. The prize allowed us to take our dinner, crockery, cutlery etc to Ikea, set it up on one of their tables to eat our dinner in their store. At the end of the evening, Pauline was given a voucher to collect a flat packed version of the table with four chairs. (We borrowed our friend’s Tarago to be able to pack the table to take it home.) Not a bad prize. We don’t actually need a new dining setting but it will still go to a good home with Pauline’s sister more than happy to replace her 30 year old table and chairs.
We were told to decorate with our own theme and so Pauline decided on a wedding table. We dressed like a wedding party and took lots of wedding type table decorations. We dined on prawn cocktails followed by chicken and salad. Pauline put in a lot of work. The Ikea staff supplied and served wine and soft drinks. You can get a better look at us at our table by clicking on the photo.
There was a Mexican table, Indonesian table, Irish table and even a table with a home renovation theme.
It was a lot of fun, especially as shoppers turned the corner into the Ikea kitchen department. You could see the confusion on their faces as they tried to work out exactly what was happening. We heard whispers from people who were wondering if we were really getting married at Ikea.
It was a wonderful evening and my bride was as beautiful as ever.

That is classic! Congratulations on winning the competition, and having such fun with it!
Hi Rodney,
what a funny and sweet idea! And amazing to see just how very much your daughter looks like your wife and your son like you! As if they were you in younger versions, which they certainly are!
Amazing!
You sure do live an interesting life Rodney. 🙂
What a charming and lovely family!
So they didn’t care that you guys were already married? This is the strangest but funnest thing I’ve seen at Ikea.
I love how your kids are mini-versions of you and your wife.
ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! How fun is this? You guys are great!!!
I think this is my first time seeing Pauline, what a beauty!
I think this sounds like a great time and congrats on winning! What a cool contest to win!
Hi Rodney
A great blog and a beautiful family! You certainly lead a fun filled life.
Great radio station btw…
Oops – forgot to let you know who I am!
That’s really beautiful!
Yours is probably one of the “weddings” difficult to come by beside the other one I attended earlier in my own town. I also blog about this wedding in my blog.
God bless you and your family.
Have been reading your blog for quite sometime. Thanks for sharing!
You old honeydripper, you.
