Auction windfall

There was a story in this morning’s newspaper about an old box of photos being sold at auction in Northern England.

The auctioneer thought they’d go for the equivalent of around two hundred Australian dollars. He started the bidding on the item and the price soon jumped.

It seems that some of the pictures may well have been examples of some of the earliest forms of photographs. When the hammer finally fell they’d achieved a price equivalent to around one hundred and eighty five thousand Australian dollars.

On the phone after the auction, the person who had put them up for sale thought the auctioneer was saying they sold for seventy five pounds. He had to say, No. Seventy five THOUSAND pounds.

I’ve got some old photos at home. They might not be quite as old as the ones that sold at auction but I wonder if I could get a good price for a few snaps of me from the eighties … complete with mullet.

  • LOL! At least you no longer have a mullett. I saw my son’s father the other day, he’s had one since high school….he looks silly.

  • :))))…let us know if u gonna succeed with that, than we can all try. I’d be interested, because i have some pictures of my grandmother that i’d like to get rid of.
