Lassie

Sometimes it’s nice to just slow down for a couple of hours.

I had the privilige of hosting the 98.5 Sonshine FM preview of Lassie at Reading Cinemas, Belmont last night. We made it a family outing and all headed along for a wonderful night out. It was a great way for Emily and James to end the first school term of 2006.

It was lovely to be able to soak in the beautiful scenery and enjoy the classic story. It seemed to be a million miles away from most of the fast paced action movies that usually fill our screens. The movie followed the original story and so was set in pre-war England and Scotland.

It was particularly interesting for us seeing that the dog that played Lassie looked so much like Boris, the collie that I used to own. A lot of Lassie’s mannerisms made her look all the more like Boris.

I talked to the screenwriter / director of the movie, Charles Sturridge, during my morning radio programme last week. He was a delightful person to interview.

There were some very sad moments in the movie and I think that any tissue manufacturer that wanted to increase market share would do well to set up stalls at cinemas showing Lassie. There were also some very funny and heart warming moments in the story. Best of all the happy ending had everyone leaving the cinema feeling uplifted.
